JUNE 2009: THE RISE OF CAREER SABATOUERS*

All companies are laying off workers on a daily basis and no one is safe. Making sure you are not one of them must be a top priority.

Given that you and your co-workers are vying for a limited number of positions prudent employees should be looking over their shoulders as even those you perceive as workplace friends may not be willing to sacrifice their families’ well-being for yours. In other words be wary of co-workers in your midst who will report on any little indiscretion, disparage you to your manager and seek to take credit for your work. If you think about it, you know who they are and you should keep an eye on them.

While this is not the most pleasant advice to give. it is a reality of the times we are living in.
